PBJ Furniture

PBJ was founded in 1968 by Per Buhl Jørgensen –which is the reason the company is called PBJ. The production startedin Rødding –Spøttrup, a small town in the western part of Denmark, idyllically situated in the countryside close to the fjord. In the beginning the company made mostly small furniture such as newspaper holders, sewing tables, consoles etc.

Per recognized the strong demand in the United States for trendy Danish design furniture, and soon PBJ exported almost everything to USA. Several of his designs were conceived for the wealthy Americans in California –for example jewelry cabinets, individual coffee tables to be drawn under the sofas so you could comfortably drink your coffee in the sofa, and later TV and media cabinets as one of the first producers in the world. Per decided to make all PBJ packaging white with the logo in red–where almost all other used brown packaging–so everybody could easily recognize a PBJ delivery. Later he started to make bedrooms.

Morten bought the company in 1996. Morten started with new designs especially for Denmark and Scandinavia, mostly bedrooms, sideboards and small furniture as well, but then diversified into other areas such as dining tables -chairs –sideboards –highboards and wall-hanging book cases like today.

In 2011 Morten decided to move the production to Poland, and now they produce everything in their own factory in Poland. They are still a 100% Danish owned family company, and their headquarters with sales, administration and design & product development remains at the place where it all started in Rødding Denmark, and their designs are made by Danish designers and architects.

Quality Furniture with a Conscience

With many years in the furniture industry they have a strong opinion on what they work with and how they work with it.

This begins with the selection of wood and raw materials. They always make certain that it is the best quality. Which means, for example, that the wood must have the correct moisture levels, fewest possible knots and of course come from a state approved forestry.

They often produce furniture with veneers. The reason for this is twofold. Firstly, it reduces the use of solid timber therefore conserving natural resources. Second, the particleboard or MDF that the veneers cover are made with recycled wood which is better for the environment whilst still produces a strong and high-quality surface.

All their timber and veneers are carefully handsorted so the natural grain patterns and colour variations are as natural as possible. They always use same veneer for a tabletop or the complete front of a sideboard. This produces better furniture, and they, as professionals, take pride in this.
